The main difference between the views? The column view allows you to view and move tasks horizontally through steps or stages, whereas you can think of the list view as a traditional checklist with tasks running vertically.
For column view, you might set-up something like our Baseline Workflow:

How to access the views
To change views, click on the columns or lists icon in the top navigation.
You can also click on the Settings to set the default view for that board.
Select "Column View" or "List View" and click "Update." You can go back and change the view at any time.
Note: the default view can also be set while creating a new board.
